B.I.C.

B.I.C. or Butt In Chair is a reminder to writers that writing is work. If you don't put in the time, your book remains an idea not a reality. When someone says to me, "I've got a great idea for a book," I am quite sure they do. The problem is simply that they have the idea without the desire to put in the long hours of planning, writing, editing, revising, rewriting, rinsing and repeating...

Everyone has a story. Only they can choose to write or not write that story. If I took their idea for a story and wrote it for them, it would never truly be their story because my writing style, my voice, my word choices, and my identity as a writer would be completely different than theirs. The truth is, most writers have way too many proverbial irons in the fire to steal someone else's idea, even if it is offered to them. So I challenge you, if you really do have a great idea for a book, what is stopping you from writing it? Give it 15 minutes a day of B.I.C. See where it takes you!
