Why Others Write

Authors are usually pretty open to talking about why they write. Sometimes they even include their reasons in their books. I recently read the YA novel in verse, The Canyon's Edge by Dusti Bowling. She recounts her reasons for writing this particular book in her Acknowledgements section at the back. I make it a point to read the all the extra bits that authors take the time to include in their books, like the forwards (or prefaces), dedications, prologues, epilogues, and acknowledgements. When you read the extra bits, you might just find answers to questions you didn't even know you had.
